The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.

The Board approved a resolution for wage increases for full time employees with the sheriff’s office. The deputies will get a $1,000 per month increase for the current fiscal year, while the full time jailers and dispatchers will each receive a $500 per month wage increase. The Board unanimously approved the higher pay due to not getting as many applicants and trying to stay competitive with the wages of the surrounding counties.

The Board also approved a resolution to appoint Billie Jo Hoskins as the new county auditor and she took the oath of office. The 30-year veteran took over as county auditor following the retirement of former county auditor Jane Heun. Additionally, the Board approved a request to have Mahanay Maestro Rick Morain perform live music from 8am-1pm on July 25th on the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower when the Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) comes through Jefferson.

The Supervisors also accepted the county treasurer’s quarterly investment report as presented. The report included the end of the 2023 fiscal year with over $14.2 million of cash on hand and an interest of $282,113. The County also ended the fiscal year with $176,581 of automatic allocation from the adjusted gross revenue of Wild Rose Casino in Jefferson.

Finally, the Board agreed to provide a letter of support to the City of Jefferson for its Iowa Thriving Communities program with the Iowa Economic Development Authority for housing
