A crash into gas pumps occurred at the Casey’s General Store in Adair Monday afternoon.

Adair Fire Chief Matt Richter says that Adair Fire and Rescue received the call from dispatch at roughly 4pm about the fire, and arrived at the scene shortly thereafter. The Adair Police Department was on scene at the time, and other emergency responders included the Iowa State Patrol, Adair County Sheriff’s Deputies, Adair County Ambulance and the Casey Fire Department.

Richter tells Raccoon Valley Radio that it appears the car that crashed into the pump drove through the ditch and struck the pump head on. This caused the pump to catch fire, totaling the vehicle that was driven into it, and the one on the other side of the pump. Adair County Sheriff Jeff Vandewater says that the Iowa State Patrol is conducting the accident investigation, while the Adair Police Department conducts a criminal investigation.
