The number five seeded Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs will take on the number four seeded Maroons from Dowling Catholic this afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the Class 4a State Tournament.

The Mustangs enter the matchup on an 12 game winning streak with a (30-6) record and a Little Hawkeye Conference Championship. They beat Des Moines East (7-1) and Waukee Northwest (8-5) to get the state tournament. Head Coach Curt Castensen makes it simple on how his team advances.

“Make the routine plays. Make sure offensively we’re putting the ball in play, making them make plays. And that’s about it. That’s as simple as it can. We have to make it for our guys. Just, you know, simplify the game. Whatever happens, happens. And we’re just hoping to come out on top.”

Dowling Catholic made it to the state title game last year, and enters this game six game winning streak. They have a record of (26-11) and placed in fourth in the Central Iowa Metro League. The Maroons have yet to give up a run in the postseason as they defeated Sioux City West (9-0) and Ankeny (8-0).

Dallas Center-Grimes will play Dowling Catholic today at 2pm for the quarterfinal round of the Class 4a State Tournament at Duane Banks Baseball Stadium in Iowa City. KDLS-94.3, 99.7 and 1310 Am will have all the coverage starting at 1:45pm.
