The Heart of Iowa Activities Conference baseball All-Conference selections have been announced and Greene County has one player on the second team and two others on the honorable mention list. Coach Kyle Stalder’s Rams were 1-13 for last place in the eight team conference and 3-20 overall.
Senior catcher Brayden Roberts was named to the second team with sophomores Noah Hinote and Gavyn Winters on the honorable mention list. Roberts led the regulars on the team in several categories including batting average (.315), on-base percentage (.448), runs batted in (15), doubles (8), and he tied for best on the squad in times walked (12) and fewest times striking out (10). Roberts also had 15 runners thrown out on the bases, ranking him among the leaders in Class 3A.
The two sophomores pitched and played other positions when not on the mound. Hinote went 3-4 on the mound with all three Greene County pitching victories and an earned run average of 4.10, which is 2.43 runs lower than the Rams’ team ERA. Hinote threw 41 innings with 36 hits allowed, 24 walks, and 16 batters hit with pitches. He struck out 38 batters and opponents hit .179 off the right hander. He played shortstop when not pitching and batted .234 with six RBI and four doubles. Winters played centerfield and had a .222 BA from the left side with six runs batted in, three doubles, and he tied for the team lead in runs scored with 13. Greene County had a team batting averaged on .186. On the mound, Winters had eight appearances, all in relief with a 5.93 ERA.
West Marshall (State Center) won the HOIAC title with Saydel (Des Moines) in second, followed by PCM (Monroe), Roland-Story (Story City), Perry and South Hamilton (Jewell), Nevada, and Greene County.
