All of the Greene County parks have seen or are going to see some upgrades.
Greene County Conservation Director Tanner Scheuermann says Seven Hills Park has a newly installed precast concrete restroom facility, as well as improving some of the access roads.
“Had some help bringing in some gravel, kind of resurfacing things, and we’ve replaced all of the parking posts, the old wooden parking posts that kind of look a little outdated and a little rotten. We’ve replaced all those with some big boulders kind of similar to what we’ve done at a lot of our other parks in the area as well.”
Scheuermann points out they also received a grant for $34,000 from the Greene County Community Foundation earlier this year to install a new pedestrian bridge at Squirrel Hollow Park.
“(It) will kind of lead from the campground to the shelter out there at Squirrel Hollow. A lot of folks (are) excited about this, I’m excited about it too. It’s going to be kind of our first piece of the puzzle to some big changes coming forth there at Squirrel Hollow here in the future.”
Finally, Scheuermann says they are waiting on some new entry signs for each of the county parks, along with other signage from the Iowa Prison Industries. He notes that they received a two-year grant from Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation two years ago, but due to shortages and a backlog of work orders with Iowa Prison Industries, the project continues to be at a standstill.
