The Dallas County Conservation Board will gather people to observe local seahawks in the area this week.
The event called “The Osprey Watch” will take place at a location and time to be determined on Friday. Naturalist Zach Moss says three active osprey nests are in or near Dallas County and wo;; give those in attendance a great view to see the fledgling osprey in their nest. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that this program is led by their bird expert Mike Halvic.
“Our naturalist Mike Havlik, is one of the renowned birders in the state of Iowa, and he’ll be on hand with a spotting scope so people can look at the fledgling osprey in their nest and learn a little bit about the conservation success story of the reintroduction of ospreys in Iowa.”
Moss says that those who want to attend must register to be updated on the time and location of the watch. He notes anyone who can’t make it can follow along on the Department of Natural Resources Osprey Cam, which is linked here.
