There are lots of livestock shows and some new entertainment on Thursday at the Greene County Fair.

The morning features the 4-H/FFA Swine Show in the show ring and Clover Kids Rabbit Show that is east of the old bus barn at 8am and 8:30am, respectively. Then at 10am is the Bucket Calf interviews at the fair board office, followed by the 4-H/FFA Horse and Pony Show at the horse arena at 11am.

Then in the afternoon there will be barnyard games at 2pm north of Clover Hall. Greene County Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Samantha Hardaway invites all youth to participate and have fun during the barnyard games.

“I know kids find lots of fun things to do at the fair that might not necessarily be planned, but this is one planned activity that kids can get to run around, have fun with other kids, and have some facilitated play time. It’s a fun about an hour length of time where kids can just play some games they might not get to play at school, but also just have some fun with their friends at the fair.”

Later that evening the Greene County 4-H Young Leaders are hosting a bags tournament, where even adults can compete. Then Thursday wraps up with live musical entertainment Down by the Barns from 6-9pm. Greene County Fair Board member Katlynn Mechaelsen talks about that new addition.

“His name is Brian Congdon (and) he will be singing some hits, country and pop. So we’re super excited to have him. There will also be Deal’s hard cider there, craft beer from 818 Brewery in Boone, Iowa; (and) we’ll have free snacks there. Please bring a lawn chair and just sit back and relax.”

There will also be free entertainment with Poppin’ Penelope and a newer act of Rondini Magic starting today. Additionally, Raccoon Valley Radio will continue live coverage of the fair on Thursday from 10am-6pm. Results from the fair will also be on our website under the Greene County Fair tab on the right hand side of the homepage.
