Two projects are continuing to move forward with the Greene County School District.

Superintendent Brett Abbotts says the School Board reviewed initial plans for new restrooms at Linduska Field. Following the discussion, the Board decided to form a committee with finalized plans of what should be included, along with placement of the new facility. Abbotts talks about the skills that the high school construction class will get with this project versus what they experienced last year putting up the storage facility near the high school.

“There will be opportunities for framing and drywalling, and some plumbing that they didn’t necessarily get to do with the storage unit that’s out there south of the high school. So this will get them into some of those more finer things that they might’ve missed out on.”

Abbotts anticipates the School Board approving the plans at their July meeting, with construction to happen this upcoming school year. Another project that is looking to be complete ahead of the 2023-24 school year is the new playground equipment for the middle school. Abbotts points out the total cost of the equipment was $55,000 and it has been ordered. He adds they are saving $10,000 on the installation, which the public could have an opportunity to help.

“So that will get rolling here soon. And then we’re going to look to establish a day where we can do maybe a ‘community build’ or have some of our students, again from that student construction project, help us assemble and build, and get our equipment up and going based on the plans that we have of what the Board approved.”

Abbotts says as long as there are no supply chain issues, he is hoping to get the playground equipment installed by August.
