The Greene County Fair is underway and there’s one area where everyone can participate.

Ann Frederick is the chair of the open class and she tells Raccoon Valley Radio that they will accept a variety of things for people to enter for open class of the fair. The entries include foods, canning, vegetables, flowers, sewing, arts and crafts, photography, genealogy and quilt blocks. Frederick points out these items can be dropped off tomorrow at Clover Hall on the Greene County Fairgrounds and the open class area is to the east of the 4-H and FFA booths and static exhibits. The judging of open class takes place on Friday. First through third places will be awarded and prize money will be given.

Additionally, Frederick says there will be a special display within the open class area called “Guess the Gadget” with old-fashioned items that the public is welcomed to figure out what their use was from several years ago.

Finally, there will also be a quilt raffle with the quilt that was made from last year’s quilt block contest at the county fair. Raffle tickets are $1 each or 5 for $6, with the proceeds going back to the Greene County 4-H Foundation. Frederick adds people can vote on their favorite quilt block with money donations this year, with the winning block to be used to make next year’s quilt.
