The rubber match between softball teams from Greene County and Saydel (Des Moines) went to Saydel on Tuesday night on the home field of the Eagles by a 12-2 final in five innings by the 10 run rule. The game was heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Along with the victory is a trip to the State Tournament next week north of Ft. Dodge at Rogers Park and it’s the second year in a row the Eagles are State qualifiers. They improved to 23-6 while Coach Tom Kennedy’s Rams fell to 22-7 with two losses to Saydel in the three times the two teams met this season.
The Eagles scored in every inning except the fourth and they collected 13 hits off losing pitcher Emma Hoyle, who recorded just two strikeouts after averaging 10 per contest. Hoyle walked four batters and the Rams were charged with six errors. Senior Emma Stream doubled and singled and had two of the four Greene County hits. Payton Kokenge and Chanlyn Cunningham, both sophomores, singled. Both Greene County runs came in the fourth inning after Saydel led 9-0 at the end of the third.
Dakota Lake was the winning pitcher and she hit a solo homer and also singled three times. Lake struck the Rams out seven times.
The contest was the last in a Greene County uniform for seniors Emma Hoyle, Alexa Peters, Olivia Shannon, Emma Stream, and Paige Teeples.
