Wednesday brings more fun with the Greene County Fair.

Greene County ISU Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Samantha Hardaway says there are a couple of week-long activities that begin tomorrow for 4-H’ers and Clover Kids to enjoy. One of them is a StoryWalk with the book, “The Day the Farmers Quit,” which is sponsored by Muir Family Farms. Hardaway points out the first 50 youth that complete the book and a quiz will receive free ice cream. The other activity, which is new, is a scavenger hunt. Hardaway notes that there will be two divisions, including 4-H and Clover Kids, for chances to win prizes.

She tells Raccoon Valley Radio how excited she is for this new activity.

“It’s also just to encourage some learning throughout the 4-H projects. Even if you don’t have say a swine project, we want you to learn that, ‘Oh this maybe a Hampshire pig or a duroc pig.’ So we are encouraging those learning opportunities, obviously the Clover Kids may not need to know that as much as the 4-H’ers and that’s why we have differing levels. But it’s a learning opportunities, not just for our livestock exhibitors, but for all of our 4-H’ers.”

Other highlights for Wednesday include the 4-H/FFA, and Clover Kids Poultry Show at 1pm at the show ring, followed by the Dog Obedience and Showmanship Show at 3pm. Then later that evening is the Greene County Fair Queen Contest at Clover Hall at 7pm. The candidates this year feature Shai Woodley, Chanlyn Cunningham, Elise Badger and Taylor McDowell. Additionally, Raccoon Valley Radio will be broadcasting live from the fairgrounds from 10am-6pm. You can also find results from the fair and a full schedule of events on our website  under the Greene County Fair tab on the right hand side of the homepage.
