During the 4th of July holiday weekend, there were minimal calls for service that the Jefferson Police Department and Greene County Sheriff’s Office responded to.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to four fireworks-related calls from July 1st-4th in Grand Junction, Scranton and Churdan. The Jefferson Police Department responded to about five fireworks-related calls, also from July 1st-4th. Police Chief Mark Clouse says while no citations were issued, warnings were given. 

Additionally, the Jefferson Fire Department went to a vehicle fire on July 4th at 9:06pm. The incident was reported in the 1200 block of Orchard Avenue with a 2000 GMC Sierra was a total loss. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office reports the suspected cause of the fire was from used firework debris and trash in the back of the vehicle.
