The Dallas County Conservation Board is asking the public to join them during some down time for a paddling excursion.

The DCCB  recently started its ongoing event titled “When it Rains We Paddle ,” which invites the public to paddle the length of the middle and south Raccoon Rivers in Dallas County with them. Naturist Zach Moss explains that this event was inspired by their winter program called “When it Snows We Ski,” which relies on people registering and showing up at a time that works best for the conservation board and the river. Moss explains more about this event.

With the unreliability of the middle Raccoon River water levels during the summertime, we’re just having a rolling kind of sign up to be notified of the program and when the water levels in the Middle Raccoon River line up with staff availability here at Dallas County Conservation, we’ll do a series of guided paddles down that stretch of Wild River from just downstream of Panora up by Linden, all the way down towards the Confluence with the North Raccoon just above Van Meter.”

Moss says registering for this event will be crucial to be able to know when and where their journeys will take place. People can register to be on standby using the link here.
