North Central Conference member Humboldt visited the Greene County Rams at the City Diamond on E. Lincolnway in Jefferson on Monday night for the last high school softball game of the regular season for both. The Rams won the contest 10-5 and are now 20-6 heading into the postseason, which starts Thursday, July 6.

The Rams, ranked 13th in the Class 3A poll from the Iowa Girls High SchoolAthletic Union, were the second place team in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference while the Wildcats, now 18-11, tied for second place in the NCC. One of the keys to Monday’s game was the Rams ability to hit the ball, especially after Reagan Lee, the third batter of the game, hit a three run homer to put Humboldt up 3-0. Winning pitcher Emma Hoyle retired the next 12 batters in a row and the Rams scored six runs in the second and four more in the third for a 10-3 lead. The Wildcats put single runs on the board in the fifth and seventh innings. Hoyle has 234 strikeouts this season after getting five on Monday night. Hoyle hit a three run round-tripper in the third, her seventh this season, and she totaled four runs batted in. Olivia Shannon singled three times with one RBI and Alexa Peters had a pair of singles and a run batted in. Emma Stream singled and drove in two and Payton Kokenge and Becca Anderson added base hits, plus Paige Teeples doubled.
