The Adel Public Library will mix furry friends and reading for one of their summer programs.

Patron Services Manager Amy Puck says that the American Rescue League of Iowa will bring in their therapy pets to the library from 4:30 to 5:30pm on Thursday for a program called “Tail Wagging Readers.” She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that this program promotes their patrons to come in and read a book to one of the pets.

“‘Tail Wagging Readers’ is encouraging all of these kids to sit down with fun books about animals and read them into these really wonderful dogs and cats that would get in (and) they’re nice and calm and they’re fun to hug and love on. And they’re very attentive when you read them books.”

The Adel Public Library will supply the books to read and all children under the age of eight must be accompanied by an adult. It is free and no registration is required.
