Tonight marks the end of the Greene County high school softball regular season and the Rams host Humboldt at 7 p.m. in a non-conference tilt at the City Diamond on E. Lincolnway in Jefferson. The non-conference contest pits the North Central Conference Wildcats against Heart of Iowa Activities Conference member Greene County. The contest will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with coverage after 6:30 p.m. There is no JV game.
The NCC was won by Ft. Dodge St. Edmond with Humboldt and Webster City tying for second place. Saydel won the HOIAC title with Greene County finishing as the runner-up. The Wildcats are 18-10 while Coach Tom Kennedy’s Rams are 19-5 and ranked number 13 in Class 3A by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.
Statistically, the two teams are nearly identical in power numbers. Humboldt has eight home runs and 121 runs batted in while the Rams have 120 RBI and nine homers. Pitching is where the numbers differ with Greene County allowing 1.26 earned runs per game with 240 strikeouts in 24 games. The Wildcats have a 2.48 ERA and 94 strikeouts in 28 contests.
