The Guthrie Center City Council met in regular session Monday night.
The Council approved building permits for the 100 block of Main Street, the 300 block of North 7th Street and the 400 block of North 5th Street. They also approved a resolution authorizing the destruction of City records as allowed by the Iowa Municipal Records Manual, a resolution regarding usage of funds from the American Rescue Plan Act, and paying the invoice from Central Landscapes for repairs done to Grand Street, along with sending an invoice to Guthrie County for their share of the cost, which is $32,410.
The Council then heard an update from the compliance officer, and addressed an appeal for a mowing violation for a property on the 100 block of Grand Street. As the owner of the property did not attend the meeting, the Council reviewed pictures of the lawn from before the notice of a fine was sent and prior to it being mowed, and the Council declined the appeal.
They also approved the 28E agreement with the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office with a small change. In the new four year agreement, weekly coverage in Guthrie Center will be increased from 60 hours a week to 70 hours, along with occasional coverage when the compliance officer is unavailable. The vote passed with four council members voting yes, and Councilman Chuck Cleveland abstaining due to working as a dispatcher for the sheriff’s office.
City Clerk Kris Arrasmith shared about participation during the citywide cleanup on June 21st, and that she had been working with Panora Fiber on the new website and was hoping it would be completed soon.
