The Iowa High School Athletic Association released postseason baseball pairings and Greene County opens Class 3A Substate 2 play on Friday, July 7 vs. North Polk in Alleman at 7 p.m. There are eight teams in each 3A substate and all eight are seeded. The Comets are the number one seed while the Rams are the eight seed. NP won the Raccoon River Conference championship and overall were 23-3 through games of June 28. Coach Kyle Stalder’s Rams are 3-19 on the season and finished last in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference.
The NP/Greene County winner plays on Monday, July 10 vs. the winner of the first round contest between Hampton-Dumond-CAL and Webster City. Humboldt is the number two seed and the Wildcats host Gilbert in the opening round with Clear Lake and Algona facing off in the other first round contest on July 7. Semifinals are July 10 with the Substate final on July 12.
