Landus site in Rippey
Landus Cooperative recently announced its plans for updating one of its facilities in Greene County.
Landus President and CEO Matt Carstens tells Raccoon Valley Radio they had to shut down part of the Rippey facility last year because of insurance reasons, but he describes the decision that was made to replace the older parts of that site.
“That piece will be going away and we’re going to be building some new storage there and new receiving. So Rippey will be getting, about half of it, a facelift to that and really help the farmers there with continued insights and infrastructure there.”
Carstens is excited with all the new changes that Greene County is seeing and will see with the rebuilt and now fully functioning Jefferson site following an explosion two years ago, to building a new grain storage facility near the Greene and Boone county line, in the Boxholm area. He says that while they have to adapt to the changing agriculture landscape, Landus will always keep their farmer members in mind.
“We are back investing in our farmers and giving them what the largest co-op in Iowa and one that stretches now across the Midwest should be doing. And although I am remorseful about the years gone by, I’m really proud about where we are today and what even the future holds. This is what agriculture should be but most importantly, this is what our rural communities and our farmer-owners should be.”
Landus Cooperative received the Rippey site from Heartland Cooperative last year in a swap with the Woodward site going to Heartland.
