Dallas Center-Grimes softball and baseball both took care of business at home against a Little Hawkeye opponent on Wednesday.

It started first the Mustang softball team run ruling the Newton by a final score of 12 to 1 in five innings. Junior Aubrey Johansen tossed her 16th win on the season from the pitching circle and five Mustang hitters had a multi hit game including Lydia Zaruba, Aubrey Johansen, Reese Burke, Addison Lyddon and Bella Mulder.

In game number two, 8th grader Tessa Jones started on the rubber and put together a complete game one hit shut out while walking two and striking out seven in five innings of work. Head Coach Steve Schlafke talked about how this outing was a confidence booster for Jones.

“She’s pretty fearless, too. And that comes from her back. I mean, she’s a coach’s kid and most coach’s kids are ready for any kind of thing because that’s just how they grow up. And and she’s very talented as well, you know, and she understands the game well. And that’s important for an eighth grader when you’re playing at the varsity level and especially against the competition that we have. So So Aubrey and her will be a good one two punch. Once we get to tournament time and and the rest of the players are playing really well. We’re hitting the ball well right now as well as we’ve hit all season long, particularly up and down the lineup.”

The Mustangs mercy ruled the Cardinals from Newton by a final score of 11 to 0.  Zoey Valenta and Reese Burke both hit homeruns. Their record now sits at (26-8) and tied for first at the top of the conference with a (16-3) record.

The Baseball team also won by a wide margin in a doubleheader against Newton. They beat the Cardinals in game 1 by a score of 8 to 3 and in game 2 the final was 14 to 4. Mustangs are on a seven game winning streak and they stand at the top conference with a (17-3) record and (24-6) overall. Now they will travel to North Polk tonight to face the Comets at 7:30pm.
