Some of the Greene County FFA’ers went to the Chapter Officer Leadership Training (COLT) Conference for the southwest district that was held earlier this month.

Greene County FFA President Elise Badger, Vice President Trey Schilling, Historian Kayla Frederick and Sentinel Shai Woodley went to Atlantic High School where they participated in four interactive workshops that were focused on advocating for the agriculture industry, connecting with stakeholders, recruiting for the local chapter, and working as a cohesive team. Each officer also underwent training for their specific office.

Badger tells Raccoon Valley Radio that she learned in the presidents group about how to make FFA attractive for everyone, not just agriculture kids. She describes her favorite part about the training was getting to meet new people.

“Being separated off into those groups, you got to talk to new people, and you got to see where they’re from and their experiences. It was really fun to see that not all the presidents (in the southwest district) were people that have grown up on a farm, or shown livestock, or farmed their whole life. It was a good group of people.”

The COLT conference focuses for next year includes agriculture literacy, time management, professionalism and self-confidence.
