A Jefferson man was recently sentenced to prison for a May 2022 incident.

According to court documents, 30-year-old Michael Teeples pled guilty to amended charges of a Class D Felony for intimidation with a dangerous weapon by threat and three simple misdemeanors for third degree harassment. District Court Judge Thomas Bice sentenced Teeples to five years in prison for the felony conviction and 30 days for each of the three misdemeanors, to be served concurrently for a maximum of five years.

The charges stem from an incident on May 9, 2022. Teeples was talking with three female juveniles at Henderson Park that evening and asked one of them to perform a sex act in exchange for money. Court documents show when the minor declined, Teeples took out a 9mm handgun and threatened to shoot out the tires of the vehicle they were driving and tried to physically grab one of the juveniles.

Teeples then started shooting at the vehicle and the Raccoon River. One of the parents of the minors contacted the law enforcement center to report the incident. Teeples was working for the city of Jefferson when the incident happened, though it was not during his employment time and his position with the city was terminated the next day.

The disposition document shows Teeples was also ordered to pay over $1,500 in fines, surcharges, court costs and court-appointed attorney fees. There is also a five year no contact order with the three juveniles. As per the plea agreement, the other charges in the case, including a felony for prostitution and three misdemeanors for false imprisonment were dismissed.
