Perry Economic Development will get citizens together to admire their new graphic artwork that promotes the City.
It took two years and a grant from the Iowa Arts Council Creative Places for artist Shawn Palek to finish the “Welcome to Perry Mural Project.” Now they will celebrate the destination-worthy mural with a dedication ceremony at 4pm on June 29th at the Raccoon River Valley Trailhead in Perry.
Organizer Jenny Eklund says that this mural will be a postcard that is painted across two different buildings. She says there will be other activities after they unveil the mural such as a band, free shirt giveaways, wine and beer samplings, food and a photo contest.
“One thing that I think is going to be exciting is everybody that comes and takes a picture, whether they’re on their bike or visiting our town and they take a picture in front of the mural, they’ll fill out a little card. It goes in a box. We’re going to do a drawing. And in this drawing, it’s kind of like a ‘Welcome to Perry Box’ and we’re having it in a peace tree beer carton.”
She says they will draw winners and those names pulled will get gift cards to local establishments. Raccoon Valley Radio’s Big Red Radio will be live on scene during the event providing coverage.
