A group of Greene Countians are continuing their effort to raise money to give to youngsters who participate in the Greene County Fair.
Friends of the Fair is an arm of the Greene County Fair Foundation. Co-organizer Ashley Johnston says they give money to 4-H’ers on the last day of the county fair at the Junior Premium Auction.
“At the Premium Auction the kids are bidded on individually (for their projects), then we put our total on top of that, and then those kids are awarded extra. So last year it was like $37. So we raised a total of $6,700, had about 110 kids in 4-H, so then it was on top of the premium that they were actually auctioned off for.”
Johnston points out this year they have a goal of $7,000 and are over halfway there now. She talks about the importance of giving additional support to this year’s 117 4-H’ers.
“And these kids work on their projects year ‘round. I mean they are out doing chores in the morning, and really working with their livestock, and their other projects that they have in the industrial building. So we want to recognize their hard work and this was a good way to show community support.”
Johnston says there are three levels of donations, which to be included in a banner during the Greene County Fair from July 11th-17th must be submitted by June 30th. The levels include $500 for the Purple Ribbon level, the Blue Ribbon level is $250 and Red Ribbon is $100. Donations can be made at Home State Bank ℅ the Greene County Fair Foundation, which is also tax deductible. All other donations must be done by July 14th.
