The National Weather Service is reminding people that temperatures are starting to rise in Central Iowa.
NWS Meteorologist Brad Small says that temperatures will be in the low 90 degrees today and the warm weather will continue through a large portion of the weekend with Sunday cooling off with temperatures back into the 80s. Small notes other good news during this heat wave is that humidity will be low with dew points near 50-percent. Small tells Raccoon Valley Radio that usually this is late for Iowa’s schedule to hit the 90 degree mark.
“Yeah, it’s a little bit late to be our 1st June temperature of the year, so it’s a little bit behind schedule, but we’re not close to the record. I think that’s in July. So unusual, but not unprecedented.”
Small says that this time of the year is when the sun rays hit their peak so wear sunscreen and find shade when necessary.
