The Guthrie County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach recently announced the return of one of their fun events.
The Wild Places in Guthrie County tourism event is in its third year now, and was something that Program Director Krista Downing thought would be a fun way to promote tourism and public outdoor places in the county. She says that they try to pick a few places around the county that hit on recreation, history and some lesser known spots, then create an educational video for that location.
Those interested in participating can take things at their own pace, visiting the locations in any order they like. The Extension produces fliers for the event, and posts them around the county, leaving the three locations they want you to visit a mystery. Just scan the QR code for any of the locations, or use the coordinates provided to make your way to the spot. Once there, there’s another flier with a large QR code on it that leads to the video, and gives suggestions on things to do there.
Guthrie County Extension is also offering a mystery prize to two lucky people. To enter into the drawing for one of the prizes, individuals must take a picture at each o the locations, and post it to Facebook while tagging the Extension, and using the hashtag #GuthrieCountyWildThings. Once you’ve posted from each of the locations, you also receive three extra entries into the drawing. All entries are due by July 20th.
For more information or to download this year’s flier, visit the Extension’s website or Facebook page, both of which can be found below. If there are any questions about the tourism event, feel free to call the Guthrie County Extension Office at 641-747-2276.
