Greene County softball hosted South Hamilton (Jewell) on Monday night in Jefferson in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. Coach Tom Kennedy’s team won 10-0 in five innings by the 10-run rule to improve to 7-1 in the conference and 9-4 overall. The Hawks are 2-13 and 0-9 and have dropped seven straight and have allowed 10 or more runs in all seven. Greene County went 2-0 this season vs. SH by a combined score of 20-1.
Winning pitcher Emma Hoyle threw all five innings with four hits allowed, no walks, and she hit one batter with a pitch. All four hits by SH were singles and only one left the infield. The Rams had two errors on the night with one by the Hawks.
Hoyle hit a line drive home run to left field that just cleared the fence for her fourth round-tripper of the season and the sixth for the Greene County team. Olivia Shannon singled and tripled with one RBI. Eighth grader Sara Morlan had a pinch-hit two run single, and Payton Kokenge singled twice and had two RBI. Emma Stream had a single and a run driven in, while Chanlyn Cunningham and Paige Teeples also singled once. Alexa Peters had one RBI and two singles.
The Rams host Roland-Story (Story City) tonight on KG98 at 7:30 p.m. from the City diamond on E. Lincolnway. The Rams were 3-0 winners over the Norsemen in Roland to start the 2023 season.
