Coach Kyle Stalder’s Greene County baseball team hosted South Hamiton (Jewell) in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play last night at Allensworth Field in Jefferson. Senior Brayden Roberts hit a two-run homer in the first inning and the Rams scored three times in the first for a 3-0 lead, but lost 9-4 to drop to 1-11 on the season and 0-7 in the conference. The Hawks are 6-8 and 3-5.
Roberts also doubled and had two RBI on the night. Isaac Carman drove in a run, while Adam Bills had two singles with one base hit each for Crew Conner, Lane Fields, and Noah Hinote. All Greene County hits took place in the first four innings.
Freshman Teagan Chisholm took the pitching loss after going 4-1/3 innings and allowing six runs, five earned. Gavyn Winters and Camden Jacobs, both sophomores, pitched in relief. Winters made a standout defensive play with a diving catch in center field to end the top of the seventh.
The number eight hitter for SH, Braden Young hit a two-run home run in the top of the fourth to put the Hawks ahead, 4-3.
The Rams are off tonight, then play at PCM in Prairie City on Wednesday before facing Roland-Story in Story City in a varsity doubleheader on Thursday.
