The Dallas County Secondary Roads Department is starting two extensive pavement widening projects.
Country Engineer Al Miller says that they will start pavement widening and rehabilitation on Alice’s Road north of Highway 44 up to County Road F31 Grant Township which started construction on June 12th. Miller says they anticipate the road being closed to traffic until late August with the price tag of $4.7 million. Miller adds that Ute Avenue will also receive the same kind of attention with pavement widening and an assault overlay. Miller explains that the project started on June 12th and will run from Booneville up to Interstate 80 until mid July for $1.1 million dollars. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that these projects will cause some travel delays.
“Well, certainly the Allice’s Road project is about five miles, and the Ute Avenue project is a little over two miles. Certainly those two projects will improve the ride quality of those two sections of road. We do have about 150 miles of paved roads, so we’re gradually trying to stay ahead of pavement rehabilitation throughout the county. That needs to be done. But certainly those two projects will be a big help in that area.”
Miller says that motorists will have to use some patients when traveling through these work zones and encourages drivers to follow the speed limits and be safe.
