The sixth inning has certainly been Perry’s inning over the past 48 hours. For the second straight night, Perry pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Jayettes defeated Grandview Christian 3-1 in non-conference softball Thursday at the PAC. Tied at one, Kalley Whelchel started the frame with an infield single. Maci Tunink followed with an opposite field double, sending Whelchel to third. The Thunder’s throw home sailed over the catcher’s head allowing Whelchel to score and Tunink to advance to third. Taylor Atwell followed with a sacrifice fly to round out the Jayette scoring.
Tunink led the way once again, both inside the pitching circle and at the plate. The junior finished with a pair of doubles while tossing seven solid innings, scattering five hits and not walking a batter. She improves to 6-4 on the season.
Lydia Olejniczak opened the scoring for Perry with a RBI double scoring Kathryn West in the third inning.
Perry will look for their third straight win tonight at home when they host South Hamilton. First pitch is slated for 7:30.
