The Guthrie County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is holding a fun recurring event.
Not only has the Extension partnered with different local entities for their summer food Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) classes, Guthrie Center Elementary is allowing them to use the facility for those classes, and the subsequent lunch. These STEAM programs have already started, but with the rest of June available, there are several left to go. The programs are being held Tuesday through Thursday, with classes lasting from 10:30-11:15am, and lunch to follow from 11:15am to 12:15pm.
Next Tuesday, the theme is “Crazy Corn” and the Guthrie County Farm Bureau will be available to educate the children in what they do, and serve a walking taco lunch. On Wednesday the theme is “Local Heroes,” and the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office will be visiting, and a pasta bake lunch with bread sticks and fruit to be served. Thursday’s theme will be “Groovy Gardening,” with the Guthrie County Extension’s Master Gardeners leading the class. The meal for Thursday will be a hot dog with baked beans.
These programs are free and open to any youth aged one to eighteen years old, although children younger than eight must have an adult with them.
