Dallas Center-Grimes softball rallies from behind beat Waukee Northwest on Thursday.

The Mustangs were scoreless in five innings due to great pitching from Waukee Northwest’s starting pitcher Maddie Oetzmann and the Wolves had the lead 2-0.  Mustangs would break through in the top of the sixth inning with Reese Burke’s line drive single scoring two. Then Summer Campbell would double scoring a run, Aubrey Johansen would triple scoring a run and Olivia Huston would hit a two run homerun to give the Mustangs a 6 to 2 lead in the top of the seventh inning. The Wolves would grab two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn’t enough. Dallas Center-Grimes beats Northwest by a final score 6 to 4. Johansen gets her seventh win on the mound and the Mustangs improve to a record of (10-3).  Head Coach Steve Schlafke said this was a good bounce back win after a loss at home to Norwalk in their last game.

“Getting him to relax really was the most important thing because our kids try so hard. They try too hard sometimes. I mean, as a coach, you really can’t believe. Kids try too hard because you always want them to try as hard as they can, but they kind of take it to a new level and then they make mistakes, you know, and they start getting down. And so we’re just trying to keep them calm. And and as the game went on, they stayed in the game. They started to do that, you know, and we started to do some different things. We were shortening up the bats a little bit and bunting a little bit. And, you know, once we got some people on base, then you can you can get the big hits. And that’s really what what won the game for us. ”

Now they head to Indianola to take on the Indians for a doubleheader starting at 5:30pm today.
