Greene County and Winterset played a non-conference high school baseball game at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the home of the Iowa Cubs, Principal Park in Des Moines. It had been several years since the Rams had a game inside the AAA stadium, and the Huskies won the contest by a 7-2 score for their first win in seven games. Greene County fell to 1-9.
Noah Hinote took the pitching loss after going the first four innings. Gavyn Winters threw the fifth and sixth innings. Winterset was the home team and the Huskies led 7-0 before the Rams scored twice in the top of the sixth. The Rams mustered just two hits, singles by Lane Fields and Brayden Roberts, although they walked three times and were hit with pitches twice. Winterset batters walked eight times and were hit with pitches another four. Hinote gave up five hits and all seven runs, with four runs being earned. Winters allowed no hits and no runs. The Rams have dropped their last eight after starting the season with a 1-1 record.
It’s back to Des Moines tonight as Greene County resumes its Heart of Iowa Activities Conference schedule vs. Saydel. The varsity game will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with coverage starting after 7 p.m. and first pitch set for 7:30 p.m.
