The Dallas Center-Grimes girls soccer team won the state championship for the second consecutive year this past  Saturday.

The Mustangs were able to shutout Waverly Shell-Rock by a score of 2 to 0 in the championship game to claim their second girls soccer state championship in school history. They finished the season with a record of (18-3) and defeated Perry, Norwalk, Marion, North Scott and Waverly Shell-Rock in the postseason. Head Coach Dan James reflected on the accomplishment of winning the state championship in back to back years.

“After we sat back. I mean, we just, just in a crazy accomplishment, winning one, but then back to back and just knowing everybody’s gunning for you, and then with the adversity we faced. I mean, everybody had to deal with the heat. I think we had to deal with more than our fair share of major injuries there in the last part of the season, especially going into the semis with Kylie Knief going out and just so proud of how the team responded and just came together and pulled it out for one another there.”

The Mustang soccer team will have a chance at the three-peat with the possibility of eight juniors returning as seniors next year.
