A new Greene County High School principal was recently announced, pending school board approval.
Greene County School District Superintendent Brett Abbotts says Karen Shannon has been offered the position for the upcoming school year. Shannon is a long time school district employee, having served as a middle school counselor and an elementary classroom teacher for the former Jefferson-Scranton and East Greene School Districts, and including the Greene County School District. She is currently finishing her first year as the district math specialist.
Shannon has a bachelor’s degree in science from Iowa State University, along with a master’s degree in professional school counseling from Buena Vista University and is currently completing her master’s of education in educational leadership from Fort Hays State University.
Abbotts says Shannon has a strong ability to connect with staff members, students and families and will lead to create a culture of learning and growth for everyone involved.
The school board must approve the hire, which Abbotts says is expected to happen in the coming weeks.
