New Opportunities will be presenting a gaming program at local libraries during June.
Problem Gambling Counselor Dorinda Wehde will be visiting the Stuart Public Library on June 7th at 5:30pm, and Mary J Barnett Memorial Library on June 8th at 6pm. She’ll be presenting the program “When is Gaming More than a Hobby?” Wehde explains that some warning signs that someone has become addicted is that they spend endless hours playing games or pay a lot of money for in-game items, to the point of needing to borrow money. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio another warning sign.
“Also a big indicator would be, say, for instance, if it’s a youth that’s living at home, and the parent might say, ‘Well, you need to get off your game in order to do homework,’ or, ‘Come help with the dishes like you said you would,’ that type of thing. And if they get really angry or irritable about being pulled away from the game, that’s another major warning sign.”
Wehde mentions that along with the presentation dates coming up in Stuart and Guthrie Center, there will be three others in Greene County and one more in Guthrie County. These programs are free and open to the public.
