A passerby aided in the rescue of a Churdan resident after a single vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office a deputy, along with Churdan Fire and Rescue, and Greene County Ambulance responded to the scene at 2pm in the 200 block of 130th Street. The Sheriff’s Office says 59-year-old Kurt Burns of Churdan suffered a medical emergency and lost control of his 2013 Dodge Ram truck as it went into the ditch. The vehicle then caught fire as a passerby, Dennis Kraft of Boone, noticed the truck was on fire and helped get Burns out of the vehicle.

The truck was a total loss and Burns was taken by Greene County Ambulance to the Greene County Medical Center. Sheriff Jack Williams says Kraft was uninjured and that if it wasn’t for him, the situation could’ve been worse.
