A reminder that this weekend is the Iowa Department of Natural Resources’ Free Fishing Weekend.
Greene County Conservation Director Tanner Sheuermann tells Raccoon Valley Radio a popular spot for fishing is the Raccoon River.
“We’ve got quite a few river accesses all across Greene County (along the river). That’s one thing that we have that a lot of people don’t in a lot of these other counties is a lot of river accesses. We keep them probably the best maintained in the state.”
Scheuermann encourages everyone to try fishing, even if you have never been fishing before because anyone can fish without a valid fishing license through tomorrow. Other public areas in Greene County for fishing include Spring Lake and Hyde Parks, along with Pound Pits. Scheuermann adds farm ponds are especially good right now for panfish, but make sure you have permission to be on that person’s property.
