The Dallas Center-Grimes girls soccer team will play for a state championship in back to back years after defeating North Scott in the semifinals on Friday
Sophomore Landry Glasgow scored at the 27 minute mark in the first half which eventually won the game by a score of 1 to 0 over the Lady Lancers. Glasgow got to talk about her goal after the game was over with Raccoon Valley Radio.
“It was early in the game. It was off the assist of someone. Our midfielders are really great at getting the ball up, and I just happen to be the person that puts it in the back of the net. I don’t even remember it really well, but yeah.”
The Mustangs did suffer an injury to junior midfielder Kylie Knief, the leading goal scorer for Dallas Center-Grimes. Head Coach Dan James said losing Knief for the game was a big loss, but he was proud of how his team stepped up.
“In that first half, we had a few balls hit off the post there. I mean, one hit, the post went straight down, but unfortunately it didn’t get behind that line, so we thought we’d have some better looks here in the second half, but we just weren’t able to get some of those same connections. So that’s where we’re missing Kylie (Knief) a little bit. We’re hoping she can get rested up and ready to roll (today) there as well. She’s just a general in the middle of the field and so we were missing a little bit of that direction there in that second half.”
Dallas Center-Grimes will now take on Waverly-Shell Rock for back to back years in the Class 2A State Championship Game. That game will be played at 3pm today at the Cownie Sports Complex field 6. Raccoon Valley Radio will broadcast the game live on KDLS 94.3, 99.7 or 1310AM and on our live stream website app.
