This year’s Tower of Fame recipient has been announced.
Tower of Fame Chair Carole Custer says Julie Fie is the 2023 honoree. The 1977 Jefferson High School graduate worked for 41 years in media and communications in the National Basketball Association. Her career started in 1981 with the Kansas City Kings, working in their public relations department and before the franchise moved to Sacramento, California in 1985.
Fie then was hired by the Phoneix Suns in 1992 to lead their basketball communications department. She was the team’s primary liaison between the media and the franchise’s players and management. Fie was responsible for facilitating news conferences, game night press accommodations, credentialing media, the production of the media guides, and press information. She also coordinated media schedules and worked on a day-to-day basis with some of the game’s biggest personalities.
Custer says the award is given to someone or a couple who lived part of their life in Greene County and whose professional or personal accomplishments internationally, nationally or statewide bring pride and positive image to the county.
“And it also tells our young people that there’s all kinds of things that they can do when they graduate from school, all kinds of accomplishments that get recognized. So we kind of want to use these as examples of what young people can do with their lives.”
Fie will be formally recognized at the Bell Tower Festival Opening Ceremonies on Friday, June 9th at 7pm on the south plaza of the Greene County Courthouse. Fie will also be the grand marshall in Saturday’s Jefferson Rotary Parade.
