Jefferson’s Carter Morton wrapped up his third collegiate track & field season on Friday with a tie for 26th place in the men’s high jump at the NCAA West Regional in Sacramento, CA. The U. of Northern Iowa Panther was seeded 42nd in the field of 48 going into the competition, where he cleared 6′ 10-1/4″, the second highest clearance of his career. The top 12 finishers advance to the NCAA Championships in Austin, TX June 7-10. It took a leap of 7′ 1/4″ to advance.
The son of Chad and Deb Morton of Jefferson concluded quite a season with a Drake Relays decathlon title, a top 40 D1 finish in the 10 event decathlon, and Most Valuable Athlete honors at both the Missouri Valley Conference indoor and outdoor championship meets, among other accolades. Morton is a 2020 Greene County High School graduate.
