The last time Roland Story and Perry squared off on the softball diamond at the Perry Athletic Complex last summer,  a combined 29 runs were scored, with 20 coming from Roland Story.  Fast forward a year later, and another 29 runs lit up the board last night.  Only this time, Perry had the upper hand as the Jayettes defeated Roland Story 17-12 to remain perfect through the opening week.  The two teams combined for 30 hits with 16 of them coming from Perry.

The Jayettes sent 12 batters to the plate in the decisive fifth inning, scoring eight runs and taking the lead for good 17-10.  Lydia Olejniczak had a couple of doubles in the inning as Perry strung together five consecutive hits.

Olejniczak, Karagyn Whelchel, and Maci Tunink led the offense with three hits each.  Olejniczak and Whelchel scored three runs while eighth grader Kalley Whelchel drove in three.  Emmalee Bell reached base four times, including a first innning 2-run double.  Taylor Atwell added two hits and two RBI’s.

Perry improves to 3-0 on the season while Roland Story falls to 2-2.
