Greene County hosted Nodaway Valley (Greenfield) on Tuesday night in Jefferson in non-conference high school baseball and softball. At Allensworth Field,  The Rams won the baseball game by a 4-3 final after trailing 3-0, and at the City Diamond on E. Lincolnway, it was Greene County taking the softball game by a 10-0 score in five innings by the 10-run rule as senior pitcher Emma Hoyle tossed a perfect game with 14 strikeouts.

The softball game was broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Coach Tom Kennedy’s team is 2-0 and followed up Monday’s shut out victory at Roland-Story with not allowing a run and just one batter put a ball in play. That was the second batter of the game and a bunt landed just fair in the right handed batter’s box where senior catcher Emma Stream threw to senior first baseman Paige Teeples for the out. the last 13 NV batters struck out. In two games Hoyle had fanned 26 batters and walked none without so much as a single three ball count in 12 innings.  Hoyle tripled and doubled and drove in two runs. The Rams totaled 11 hits with two singles by Alexa Peters, Payton Kokenge, and Paige Teeples, and one base hit from Olivia Shannon and Chanlyn Cunningham ,

Coach Kyle Stalder’s baseball Rams scored two runs in the sixth and seventh to even their record at 1-1 while NV fell to o-3. Wolverines starting pitcher Boston Devault allowed no runs and struck out 12 Rams, but was lifted due to pitch count concerns. The Rams took advantage by scoring twice in the sixth and two more in the seventh for the victory. The tying and winning runs scored without a hit because of a hit batter, three walks, two wild pitches, a passed ball, and the winning run scoring on an error. Both teams had four hits with Isaac Carman knocking in a run with a single for the lone RBI. Matthew Hovick tripled and Adam Bills and Camden Jacobs each singled. Not only was the win the first of the season, but the first for father-son coaching duo of head coach Kyle Stalder and his son, Bryce, the assistant. The winning pitcher was Noah Hinote, who allowed three earned runs in seven innings on four hits, three walks, a hit batter, and nine strikeouts for his first varsity complete game victory.

The Greene County teams are on the road tonight in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play vs. South Hamilton in Jewell. The games were originally set for Jefferson, but since Greene County soccer hosts Chariton in the Substate 7 boys’ soccer final in Jefferson, the baseball and softball games were moved to Jewell tonight with the Rams hosting the Hawks on June 12.
