Ribbon cutting in May of 2023 at Iowa Cover Crop
A new business has officially opened near Jefferson.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Monday morning at the new location of Iowa Cover Crop, just south of Jefferson on Highway 4. Owners Bill Frederick and James Holz built the new facility after their previous location near Paton was destroyed by the December 2021 tornadoes. Holz pointed out when they heard about the property possibly being available, he and Frederick couldn’t be happier of where they could set up a permanent location.

“It’s got a great location, right on Highway 4 just a mile south of town. And we are close enough to town that anyone from town that needs grass seed, but yet out in the country that we have docks and we can load semi loads of seed, and just have a lot of room to work with.”
Holz said they doubled their warehouse space and are offering a variety of cover crop seeds, along with the capabilities to blend different species, and offer grass seed and forages. Frederick told the crowd on Monday that they have 15 dealers from Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska and Minnesota that they work with. The business is currently open from 8am-4:30pm Monday through Friday.
A grand opening event has also been scheduled for June 8th from 4-7pm where a light meal will be served, along with music and some vendor booths as well.
