The Perry City Council ordered at their latest meeting in May to demolish a dangerous structure.
The Council unanimously approved the demolition of a building that was determined to be in the advanced stages of dilapidation on 1726 2nd Street. City Administrator Sven Peterson says that the city believes this building is a safety hazard and the best course of action is to tear it down. Peterson explains that declaring a structure dangerous is a tool in Council’s tool box to clean the city of structures that are in disrepair. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that they have a list and will be targeting other dilapidated structures.
“One of the big things that we did this year was actually budget for demolition and removal. So now we have funds to be able to go after some of those properties and actually have the funds budgeted to remove the property or remove the structure and kind of move the needle on some of these derelict homes.”
The Council authorized staff to solicit bids for all necessary steps for the demolition of the property.
