Until earlier this month, Linduska Field in Jefferson had never been the site of a varsity soccer match. Tonight, the home of the Greene County Rams will host not one, but two, Class 2A boys’ Substate semifinal contests. Perry and Carroll face off at 5:30 p.m. in Substate 8, followed by Greene County hosting Ballard (Huxley) at approximately 7:30 p.m. in a Substate 7 contest. The winning teams play in their respective Substate finals on Wednesday evening. If the Rams win tonight, they’ll be at home again on Wednesday against either Chariton (11-2) or Clarke (Osceola) (6-6).
Coach Carl Behne’s Rams are the Substate 7 top seed and put together a regular season record of 11 wins against 4 losses. The Rams had a first round bye in the postseason and have not played since a 10-0 victory over East Sac County on May 12. Greene County has played Ballard (5-10) once this season and the Rams came away with a victory by shut out, 8-0 in early April. One of the top players for the Bombers missed that first contest, but is expected to play tonight. The Bombers advanced to the semifinals with a first round win over Panorama by a 2-0 final.
