The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn High School Esports program qualified for state in their first year as a school sponsored activity.

There are 15 total students participating in Esports for the Tigers this year and they excelled and qualified for state in the Iowa High School Esports Association Class 1 Mario Kart 8 State Tournament. Head Coach Christopher Hatchitt says this a major accomplishment for the program and he is ecstatic for his team to get a chance to play in the postseason.

“It has been so much fun. And I’m so proud of these kids for joining the team, for putting the hard work in, for putting the dedication and, and just really, really striving for that. Because we talked about that from day one, this is a competition. Yes, it’s playing video games, but it is a competitive team.”

There are 48 high school teams that compete in Class 1 and only 12 qualified for the state tournament at the MidAmerican RecPlex in West Des Moines on June 1st.
