A Greene County-based business is having a ribbon cutting coming up soon.

The ambassadors with Jefferson Matters will be on hand for a ribbon cutting ceremony at Iowa Cover Crop, located at 1669 N Avenue, in Jefferson. Co-owner Bill Frederick says the original location of the business that he also owned with James Holz, was in Churdan. However, they were one of the areas that were impacted by the December 2021 tornadoes. Frederick explains why they chose to relocate to Jefferson.

“I live south of town about ten miles and James lives east of town about ten miles, so it’s a perfect central location. We were really scrambling (after the tornado). Most of our business is done in the fall and we wanted to get something going, and up and functional by last fall. So we were calling everybody we knew and finally stumbled on this place and it’s actually, probably the perfect location for us. It turned out really well and we’re really excited.”

Jefferson Matters Executive Director Matt Wetrich invites everyone to check out Iowa Cover Crop.

“We’re excited for, actually a really unique business here, and it’s a continuingly growing, upcoming component of agriculture. These guys are doing it well, they’re doing it locally, (and) they’re doing it smart. We’re pumped that they’re a Greene County business.”

The ribbon cutting will take place at 11am this coming Monday. It is free and open to the public.
