Ogden took full advantage of some early wild pitching Thursday night as the Bulldogs defeated Perry 5-3 in the home opener at Progressive Field. Ogden sent eleven batters to the plate in the first inning, scoring all five of their runs in the opening frame. Perry starter Fausto Beato walked five of the seven batters he faced before being removed in the first inning. Sophomore Owen Myers inherited a one out bases load jam and surrendered back to back hits to Jack Christensen and Keaton Westberg to give Ogden an early 5-0 lead. That would be the last we would hear of the Ogden offense as Myers cruised the rest of the way, pitching 5 1/3 shutout baseball while striking out a career high 10 batters.
Perry scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Drake Levan delivered a two run single while Kain Kilmer slashed an opposite field double to score Levan and cut the deficit to 5-3. The Bulldogs went to the bullpen in the fourth inning and Westberg spoiled any hopes of a Perry comeback. The junior tossed four scoreless innings allowing just one hit and a pair of walks.
Perry outhit Ogden five to three with Levan leading the charge with a pair of singles. Kilmer, Geren Kenney and Juan Diego had the other Perry hits.
The Bluejays fall to 0-2 and will travel to Northview Park Saturday night for a 7:30 game against Ankeny Christian. Ogden improves to 1-1 and will host Humboldt tonight.
