Greene County High School’s boys’ soccer team will open the Class 2A postseason at Linduska Field in Jefferson vs. Ballard (Huxley) on May 22 at 7:30 p.m. Coach Carl Behne’s Rams are 11-4 on the season and the number one seed in Substate 7. As a result, the Rams had a bye in the opening round of the postseason while Ballard was a 2-0 first round winner over Panorama on May 15. Ballard is 5-10 after downing the Panthers and will be looking to upset the top seeded Rams, who own a victory early this season vs. the Bombers by a final of 8-0.
Carl Behne is head coach of the Rams and he told Raccoon Valley Radio, “We are excited to have earned the right to play our matches in the playoffs at home. With that right comes the responsibility to play our game and produce outcomes indicative of the work we’ve put in. We played Ballard early in the season and handled them relatively easy. I am confident they have grown in their play as well as have a hunger to avenge the loss from early in the season. They will have their exchange student back, so that will offer a wrinkle we haven’t seen. I am confident if we play Ram soccer we will come out on top.”
Chariton is the two seed in Substate 7 and they host Clarke (Osceola) on May 22. The two winners meet for the Substate 7 title on May 24 with a trip to the 2A State Tournament on the line.
A Substate 8 semifinal between Perry, the top seed, and Carroll, will be played on May 22 at Linduska Field at 5:30 p.m., thus the 7:30 p.m. start for the Rams and Bombers. It’s a rare postseason boys’ soccer twin bill at Linduska Field on May 22.
